Multi-Sensor InSAR Assessment of Ground Deformations around Lake Mead and Its Relation to Water Level Changes

Changes in subsurface water resources might alter the surrounding ground by generating subsidence or uplift, depending on geological and hydrogeological site characteristics. Improved understanding of relationships between surface storage deformation is important for design maintenance hydraulic facilities stability. Here, we construct one longest series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) to date, over twenty-five years, study level changes surroundings Lake Mead, United States, at Hoover Dam. We use Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) Permanent scatterer interferometry (PSI) techniques 177 SAR data, encompassing different sensors including ERS1/2, Envisat, ALOS (PALSAR), Sentinel-1(S1). perform a cross-sensor examination relationship displacement. found negative change around reservoir that was consistent across all sensors. The evident from long-term occurring 1995 2014, also intra-annual oscillations later period, 2014 2019, both dam. These results suggest an elastic response reservoir, dam reservoir. Our illustrates how InSAR-derived deformations can be time sensors, showing potential detecting longer time-series deformation.
